# How to Enable Passphrase on ELLIPAL Titan and X Card?

This guide walks you through enabling the passphrase feature on your ELLIPAL device. A passphrase — sometimes called the 25th word — works alongside your seed phrase to generate a separate wallet. If you lose the passphrase, access to that wallet cannot be recovered, so read through this guide before enabling it.

### Before You Start

#### What is a passphrase?

A passphrase is an additional security layer on top of your seed phrase — sometimes called the 25th word. When you create a new account with passphrase enabled, the device combines your seed phrase and passphrase to generate a completely separate wallet.

* **Standard wallet** → seed phrase only
* **Wallet with passphrase** → seed phrase + passphrase

**Format:** 1–32 characters (letters, numbers, or symbols; case-sensitive)

Every different passphrase generates a completely different wallet. A single character difference — including capitalisation — creates an entirely separate set of addresses. ELLIPAL does not store your passphrase anywhere on the device; if it is lost, access to that wallet cannot be recovered.

### How to Enable Passphrase

1. Open **Settings** on your Titan 2.0
2. Tap **Passphrase**
3. Read the on-screen warning, then tap **Open**
4. When the toggle shows **Passphrase ON**, the feature is enabled

1. Press **↓** (left button) to select **Options**, then press **▢** (right button) to confirm
2. Select **Passphrase**, then press **▢** to open
3. Press **▢** to advance through the reminder pages
4. Select **Yes**, then press **▢** to confirm
5. When the screen shows **Passphrase ON**, the feature is enabled

### How to Confirm It Worked

After completing the steps above, the device displays **Passphrase ON**. The feature is now active — when you create a new account, the device will ask you to enter a passphrase, which it uses together with your seed phrase to generate that wallet. Accounts you already have are not affected by this toggle. Make a note of the passphrase you plan to use and store it somewhere safe and offline.

### What Can Go Wrong

#### Why is my balance zero after entering my passphrase?

If your balance shows zero after recovery, the most common cause is an incorrect passphrase. The passphrase is case-sensitive — **"Ellipal"** and **"ellipal"** produce different wallets. Check the exact capitalisation, spacing, and symbols you used when first setting it up.

#### Passphrase shows OFF after a firmware update — did I lose my wallet?

No. After a firmware update, the passphrase toggle resets to OFF by default. Existing accounts created with a passphrase are not affected. Turn the toggle back ON to re-enable the feature for any new accounts you create.
